We decided to compare Toyota Fortuner with its rivals Nissan X-Trail and Mitsubishi Pajero. Coming to the really tough part. Judging these very capable Sports Utility Vehicles individually was a lot of fun but when they are put on the same platter, it gets really difficult. Simply because each of them has a different character and their own set of merits and disadvantages. To be really honest, there are certain things I simply adore about them like the X-Trails amazing fuel economy and refinement, the Fortuners impressive stance and brilliant pricing and the legendary Pajeros super off-roading capabilities. It really is a very subjective choice.

Ford Endeavour has always been a great seller for Ford in this country proving that for Indians, size does matter. The SUVs overly generous proportions turn out to be a big ego massager on the road and it becomes your second nature to almost run small vehicles, two-wheelers and overloaded auto-rickshaws off the road. The world becomes your playground and wherever you drive to, you are never going to arrive unnoticed. Modern styling touches come in the form of new headlamps with the eyebrow effect, tweaks in the form of smart LED type rear view mirror integrated indicators, the Endeavour logo on the sides and embossing on the top of the grille as well as redesigned bumpers to name a few. And of course, you cant dismiss the newly styled alloy wheels.
It was nice to get behind the steering of Volkswagen Phaeton after two days of walking at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The Phaeton has all the gizmos you need and some more to give you the perfect driving position to suit each and every individual. The drive would take us from Frankfurt to Dresden - a distance of 470 kilometers. Once we hit the Autobahn and started cruising, the Phaeton came into its own. Immediately you could say that this car was designed and made for cruising and munching miles. The 3-litre TDI engine was doing a great job in the Phaeton as it propelled it to the 200km/h mark with absolute ease. The solid bottom end pull of the diesel engine also gave the car fantastic tractability at low speeds.
